I Am No Film Critic

But I thought: What's the point of having my own website and bitching and moaning the way that I do if I don't start reviewing movies on the side? All the cool kids are doing it. I watch a lot of movies and I don't want to go through the trouble of making a Letterboxd so I will be taking advantage of the audience I have already accumulated and posting film reviews here. Enjoy. Or don't.

The Lost Boys (1987)

Date Watched: May 30th, 2024.

I watched this movie on a plane from Switzerland to Iceland. I had seen it before but this was my most recent viewing. It's good. It's an 80s movie so if you like 80s movies you will probably like this one. It has all the quintessential American 80s dudes in it. It is fun to watch and their interpretation of vampiric powers is somewhat unique. This is probably the movie that brought "teen hearthrob vampire" as a trope into the public conscious (ugh. Okay. Fine.) so it is a rather significant vampire movie. I would recommend it.

Nosferatu (2024)

Date Watched: December 30th, 2024. 10:00 PM

Well, I just got back from seeing Nosferatu (2024) with Arson. Let me start out by saying: HOLY FUCKING SHIT. I thoroughly enjoyed that movie. For one thing, the acting was phenomenal. I am already partial to a handful of your human actors in the cast and they all did spectacular. The cinematography was also stellar. I can appreciate a good artistic shot as much as the next person but the use of light and shadows and the use of practical effects for nearly everything (including the 2000+ live rats) really put this one in a class of its own. The thing I most enjoyed about this movie, however, has to be the fact that they let Count Orlock be himself. By himself I mean, of course, be a creature. I won't spoil the plot of the film at all, but I will mention that Count Orlock really is an odd duck. He is a dear friend, certainly, but he is an odd duck. This movie was great. You should go and see it. I am using my vampire mind control to force you to go and see it. Submit to your vampire overlords at once and support our cinematic endeavours. Do it now. See Nosferatu.

Mark of the Vampire (1935)

Date Watched: August 8th, 2025. 9:00 PM

Did You Know Bela Lugosi Has A Second Vampire Movie? It's called Mark of the Vampire and it's from 1935. You can watch it for free on the Internet Archive here! I enjoyed it despite how short and sweet I found it. It bears a lot of similarities to "Dracula" but it is different enough that even if you know the Brahm Stoker novel by heart you can still enjoy this film with fresh eyes.
